If you are wondering what sparked my interest of Chia seeds, my friend and fellow blogger Leslie Sarna wrote a post about Chia seeds. See post here
Just like any product, there are many manufactures of the Chia seed. As you know, I am a huge consumer of organic products. So I of course recommend organic Chia Seeds.
Different ways to consume Chia seeds:
- Add to Cereal, yogurt, salads, Muffins, cookies, pancakes Cottage cheese, soup, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, oatmeal, smoothies, salsa and dips.
- 1 table spoon with water.
Unlike flax seeds you don’t need to grind them in order for them to digest properly. About two tablespoons provides 7 grams of fiber.
Another way to use Chia seeds is to substitute the butter or oil you would usually use and replace it with Chia seeds.
In order to do that you need to take 1 tablespoon of dry Chia seeds, mixed with 9 tablespoons of filtered water or any other liquid. Stir the Chia seeds and water together with a fork to prevent clumping. Leave in the bowl alone for 10-15 minutes. By this time you will see a thick gelatin with the seeds suspended inside.
It’s as easy as that! Now not only will you receive nutritional benefits from the Chia seeds but you found another substitution for butter and oil for your baked goods.
