The USDA gave full approval to Monsanto’s genetically engineered (GE) alfalfa to be planted and sold. What many of you may not know, the battle to keep GE crops off our soil has been a 12-year ordeal.
So what’s the big deal you ask? Genetically engineered products are not allowed in the organic world. If you are not familiar with alfalfa it looks like this:
You see that little bee? As we know from this week’s honey blogs, bees will take the nectar from the G.E. alfalfa flowers to make honey. That honey will now be considered G.E.
Alfalfa’s primary use is as feed for dairy cattle because of its high protein content and highly digestible fiber and secondarily for beef cattle, horses, sheep, and goats. Download Alfalfa
