Do you have a love hate relationship with garlic? You might not but the person kissing you could have a different opinion on the subject.
Just like onions, garlic resonates in your pallet and breath for some time after you consume it. Maybe the similarities in these potent bulbs is because onion, garlic, shallot, leek and chives, are close relatives. source
There are two types of varieties of garlic
- Hardneck (sends up a flower stalk called the scape which is also edible)
- Softneck
The ‘scape’ variety isn’t well known in the U.S. because the softneck portion of the garlic is used commercially. So today will be about softneck garlic.
I was raised in Northern California. 30 minutes from Gilroy, the largest garlic capital in the US. But Gilroy love to reference themselves as “the largest garlic capital in the world”. Gilroy is responsible for 90% of the distribution of garlic here in the US.
China tops out at 10.5 million tons of garlic annually being 77% of the worlds garlic producer. Top that Gilroy! 😉
Personally, I have a love love love for garlic and never minded the smell of it on anyone’s breath. That could be from the Italian blood flowing through my veins.
Garlic can have anywhere from 4-60 cloves on one bulb and is used for medical, culinary, repellent for mosquitoes, vampires and ex boyfriends/girlfriends.
If you think that’s good, wait to see the amazing benefits of garlic tomorrow! xxx
