After a few requests I have decided to do sleep week.
Some of you might be envious when I tell you, when I hit the bed I am out cold. Some of my tricks are these basic steps that could be your answer to getting a solid night of sleep.
Basic sleeping method
- Consistency
- Keep your bedroom pitch dark
- Substitute TV for a book
- Only doing the two ‘S’s on your bed
- Wake up the same time every morning
- Nap if tiered early afternoon
Consistency
Set a regular bedtime for yourself. Try to keep it within a 15 minute time difference. One hour off could cause you to toss and turn. Our body loves consistency and thanks you for it!
If you are a night owl ask yourself how often do you get sick? Do you feel worn out during the day? Do you get moody easily? If you’re sick more than once a year, and you answered yes to one of the questions, likely you’re body needs a different sleeping schedule.
Keep your bedroom pitch dark
Uhhh yeah… Exactly what it says it means. Blackout your room! Wear a eye mask if necessary. Just keep the room black and you will see the difference in your sleep.
Substitute TV for a book
Reading is very therapeutic and soothes the mind. If you are someone who reads and can’t absorb anything you just read, trust me, keep reading and you will pass out from boredom.
Only do the 2 ‘S’s
Mom, Dad, put your ear muffs on. My bed has only two purposes, it’s used for sleep and sex! Ear muffs off now, thanks.
Do not do your homework, do not work on your laptop and finish your emails, do not take work calls in or on your bed. Relating your bed to the two ‘S’s your body will develop a trigger to sleep. Just like when you sit on a toilet to unload. It will happen naturally. 🙂
Wake up the same time every morning
Once you are on a consistent routine, your body will wake up naturally the same time every morning. No alarm clock necessary.
Nap
If you are exhausted and didn’t get your regular 8 hours, take a nap, but not longer than 30 minutes. Only nap in the early afternoon.
If you don’t have a problem with sleep, I believe your body has adjusted to your routine. If you do get 8 hours of sleep then great job!
If you find your self groggy, wanting to nap everyday even if you don’t have a problem falling to sleep, you might want to consider changing your sleep routine or daily nutrition habits. Please sleep, no one wants to be around a grouchy, depleted person. A proper sleep routine may be the answer to a happier more successful life!
