Let’s break down the word Breakfast. Break & Fast. When we sleep, we are going 7-8 hours with no food or water. Hence, the “break” from eating and waking up from a “fast”.
Breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day and happens to be one of my favorite meals. Having a hearty, healthy breakfast will start your day off right! When preparing your meal, make sure to have the right amount of protein (low-fat meats, eggs, beans) complex carbohydrates and fiber (whole grains, fruit, vegetables).
Try to stay away from processed cereals that are all sugar, white bread or pastries. They taste great but they digest quickly and leave you hungry. Most importantly, they’re not a proper source of energy to keep your metabolism up and that’s the whole purpose of a good breakfast.
Children who eat a healthy breakfast are known to have higher test scores versus children who skipped breakfast. But be warned that children who eat high sugary breakfasts are more likely to eat more at lunch and attend to fall asleep in class. Take it from me, I was one of those students.
Some people have a hard time eating breakfast. If that’s you, try starting out with something small. Then build upon what you’re eating. Hard boil eggs, whole wheat toast or some fruit. Or even, try munching on some nuts than in a couple hours try eating some fruit. Something is better than nothing!
If you are trying to lose weight, eating a large breakfast will help you accomplish your goal of trimming down much faster. Also, try drinking 8 ounces of water when rising. This also promotes healthy weight loss and keeps you well hydrated.
Keep in mind about portion control. Don’t overstuff your self. Eating a healthy large breakfast doesn’t mean overeating.
