This remarkable plant has been around for more than 3500 years. It has names such as:
- “The Universal Panacea” by the Greeks over 2000 years ago
- “The Wand of Heaven” by the Native Americans
- “The Plant of Mortality” by the Egyptians
- And today “Aloe Vera”, “The Burn Plant”, “Lilly of the Desert” or “The Medicine Plant”
Some of our well-known historians such as Cleopatra, Alexander the Great, Spanish conquistadors, missionaries and the Egyptians all have documented the uses of the aloe vera plant.
Cool fact
- The first known document to mention the aloe vera plant was found near the Mesopotimeum city of Nippus on a clay tablet.
I’m guessing that everyone has heard of or has used aloe vera at some point before. Doctors and families have used it for its medical properties for more than 3500 years! What makes its properties so special?
Cleopatra has always been a source of intrigue for me. She was believed to use aloe vera on her skin to protect her from the sun and even consumed the gel of the plant so her skin would stay looking young from the inside.
So what are the true benefits of aloe vera and what do we really know about it? Come back tomorrow to find out.
