Pasteurized-eggs-become

Before I was really interested in what I was eating I had no idea what pasteurization really meant. I thought it was a healthier solution to eat foods to help prevent sickness and to get full nutritional benefits from what I consume. Don’t tell my fiance Ryan, but I was wrong!

Definition

Pasteurization: A process in heating food, usually liquid, to a specific temperature for the definite length of time, and then cooling it immediately.

By pasteurizing food, the set goal is to destruct certain diseases that carry germs and to extend the shelf life of the shelved products.

Milk is heated to temperatures of 145 degrees to 150 degrees F. for at least a half an hour then reduce the temperature to not more than 55 degrees F.

Pasteurization

I believe if you are drinking milk from a cow that recently went on a pill-popping spree, had their drug dealer farmer inject them with steroids to be all they can be or put hormones in their drinking water, eat food that should be on the dirty dozen list and being confined to a tinny stall not being able to roam around in the grassy fields, then pasteurize away! I wouldn’t drink milk from that cow if someone paid me to do it!

If you are drinking milk from a healthy cow, pasteurization wouldn’t be necessary. The companies that pasteurize your products not only kill off the bad bacteria, it kills the beneficial enzymes that make drinking milk good for the consumers in the first place.

Did you know, if you are lactose intolerant your lactose vanishes when you drink raw organic milk? When milk is processed through pasteurization and homogenization the process changes the composition of enzymes such as lactoperoxidase are killed? Article Which in fact are used to help you digest the milk and this prevents you bodies natural tendencies to digest and assimilate the milk.

I personally drink almond milk article. I’m not a big fan of dairy products, but each to their own. I say if a cow doesn’t drink their own milk after “cow-hood” why do we fell the need to drink it? I use my home-made unpasteurized almond milk for everything, such as for my ice cream, smoothies, and cereal.
